A (Half-Baked) Tale of a Bakery’s Beginnings

New York City in the ’70s not only spawned Studio 54 and the disco era, but it also gave rise to Doron Greenblatt Petersan: a little girl born with a desire to make the world a better (and tastier) place.

At about the same time on the Left Coast, Kirsten Rosenberg was not quite your typical L.A. kid, preferring instead to spend all her time dreaming of horses and saving sidewalk snails rather than auditioning for TV roles.

Fast-forward a few years later to 2001…

After moving to Washington, D.C., and settling in as a certified fitness instructor and nutritionist, Doron—a longtime animal activist and vegan with a discerning sweet tooth—decided once and for all to do something about the lack of rich and satisfying desserts for those who eschew animal products. And, what better way to demonstrate that delicious eating and a concern for animal suffering, the environment, and human health need not be mutually exclusive? Thus, a bakery was born! Utilizing her years of experience working in the food service industry as well as her degree in dietetics (not to mention her appreciation for all things chocolate), Doron wowed customers with her mouth-watering creations.

As fate would have it, Kirsten had also relocated to the nation’s capital, serving as managing editor of The Animals’ Agenda magazine following her years of involvement in animal advocacy (and, okay, a brief stint as an extra in a couple of TV shows). When Doron and Kirsten crossed paths as a result of their animal work, they immediately realized that they shared, among other things, a firm belief that veganism could and should be both enticing and fun! In no time, Kirsten was hooked on Sticky Fingers products and had no choice but to accept Doron’s offer to become her bakery partner.

Now, with Doron overseeing operations and Kirsten handling marketing and administrative affairs, Sticky Fingers Bakery is the place to go for unbeatably satisfying sweets that contain no animal products yet all of the taste!
